All the free block patterns I have included are created using the quilting software EQ7. I will be adding new block patterns so bookmark this page if you are wanting to increase your block patterns or if you want to remember where you can get a range of free block patterns.

A great craft directory to check out for a large selection of free quilting patterns and other crafts is Free Craft Patterns Online.

For those interested in learning the art of paper cutting which would be very useful when creating your own appliqué patterns see Tongs Paper Cutting with Tong's unique, original, handmade paper-cutting picture gallery. It includes free paper cutting art instructions; a step-by-step guide showing how to make, fold and cut them to create paper pictures. There are many free patterns to enjoy.

Each block style below comes with a range of useful patterns, depending on what is relevant for each block. This can include patterns for:

* Foundation Piecing

* Templates

* Rotary Cutting

* Appliqué Templates

You will need to check on the block size and adjust these pattern sizes to suit. You can do this using the enlarge/reduce function on a photocopier. See table below the block patterns for percentages to use when reducing or enlarging block patterns. Or for those clever people, using graph paper also works. My daughter used to do this for me.

All of the free block patterns have a 1/4" seam allowance included except the appliqué patterns. Make sure you check before you begin sewing.

How to use this table:

On the left hand side find your current block size and then go across the top until you find the size that you want your new block to be. Follow the row across and the column down and where they meet you will see the percentage amount you need to use to enlarge or reduce your original pattern.

If you begin with an 8" block pattern but you want to make a 12" block then you need to enlarge the 8" block pattern by 150%.
