Competition Binding

To create the perfect competition binding watch this three part video set where Sharon teaches you how to bind your quilts like a professional.

Quilt judges say that it is the binding and back of the quilt that makes the difference whether a piece wins the competition or not. The judges will actually go into the corner with a piece of paper or their clip board, and if they find that the corner is not actually square they will take points off.

Sharon's technique gives you the control to get the binding perfect. It adds the use of glue, spray starch, iron and ladder stitch to an otherwise traditional binding method. She gives a very detailed demonstration using these. The result is outstanding.

Equipment necessary:

* Squared quilt

* Fabric for binding

* Thread

* Rotary cutter & ruler

* Elmers School Glue & Tip

* Heavy starch

* Iron

* Cutting Mat

Each video is approximately 9 minutes long, so grab yourself a comfy chair, a drink and enjoy!!

I have talked to a friend of mine regarding entering quilts into competitions. She has entered many quilts into competitions and says you have to be prepared to put a lot of extra work into the quilt while making it. This can become very stressful for some people. Now a mature quilter she quilts for pleasure not for judges to critique her work.

I later found out that she still helps others with their quilts when they want to make a quilt as a competition piece! I suppose that once a skill has been learnt then it will always have value and be called upon from time to time.
