Fabric cutting instructions

Ornament Fabric: Christmas fabric

Cut two 3 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles

Cut one 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangle

Accent Stripe Fabric: Coordinate with Christmas fabric

Cut two q 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles

Background Fabric: White tone on tone

Cut four 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares

Cut two 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles

Gold for Ornament Top/Bottom:

Cut one 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle

Directions: Use a 1/4" seam allowance throughout construction.

1. Sew a 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" background to the 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" gold fabric along the 4 1/2" sides. Repeat on the opposite side of the gold strip. Press seam allowances towards the gold strip. Square up one long side of the strip and cut two 2" x 12 1/2" segments from it.

2. Draw a diagonal line on the background 3 1/2" squares. Sew the 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares to each end of both 3 1/2" x 12 1/2" ornament strips along the diagonal line. Fold out rectangle to see that you are square; trim excess fabric to 1/4" seam allowance. Press seams towards triangles.

3. Sew a 1 1/2" x 12 1/2" accent stripe lengthwise to one side of a 3 1/2" x 12 1/2" ornament strip. Sew an accent strip to the opposite side of the ornament strip. Press seam allowances towards the accent strips.

4. Arrange rows as shown below. Sew the rows together, matching edges. Press seam allowances towards the contrast stripe and background/top and bottom strips.

This makes quite a large block so if you get lots of blocks made for this BOM then the winner will be able to make a large Christmas quilt. Great to bring out at Christmas time and cover the couch with.
