Baby Quilt Patterns Free

For baby quilt patterns free of charge you will find a great selection here. There are a lot to browse through. Some of the patterns are quite traditional and others more modern in design. Over time I will be adding more patterns.

When selecting baby quilt patterns free to add to this page I took into consideration the finished quilt size. Crib/cot sizes do vary but on average their mattresses are about 28"wide and 52"long. With this in mind I have selected patterns that are around 40"-55"wide and 50"-70"long. The advantage to a slightly bigger baby quilt is that it can also be used on the child's first big bed.

Some of the above baby quilt patterns free don't appear in traditional pastel pinks, blues, yellows or greens. Nor do they all look like cute baby quilts! In fact I'm sure some were not designed for this. But as we all know quilters are great at visualizing a quilt pattern in their preferred colorway! So have fun with making your baby quilt!

You will also find some very cute baby quilt patterns free in the free applique quilt patterns, free panel quilt patterns and also in the free nine patch quilt patterns. Among the applique category are some fabulous applique templates that you may prefer to use with a different pattern.

Another consideration when making a quilt for a baby is what batting to use. For all my baby quilts I have used a machine washable pure wool batting. I like the natural fiber and the warmth that this offers. My daughter has gentle machine washed all the quilts I have made for her daughter with great success. Unfortunately it is one of the more expensive batting on the market. My quilting group have decided to buy a full roll of batting at wholesale price for the group to share so it will be interesting to see how that goes.
