Kyle Offermann turns T-shirts into quilts for customers. She says “While traditional piece-quilting didn’t appeal to me, I really had fun making T-shirt quilts, which have fewer pieces and more meaning for customers. I started out making quilts for myself and my friends and even had one accepted into a quilting show.”

Members of the Salisbury Rowan Quilters’ Guild are collecting quilts in preparation for their first combined quilt show “Sunny Days and Starry Nights” on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19. Everyone is invited to celebrate the merger of Salisbury’s two quilt guilds at the First Baptist Ministry Center, 223 N. Fulton St., for the biannual quilt show. Show hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. More than 150 professionally judged quilts will be on exhibit along with cuddle quilts, VA quilts, and 41 small art quilts that will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. See photo.

May 16, Bold-Patterned Quilts on Display at the 1861 Custom House

Elaborate bold-colored and star-studded patterns – many with Texas themes – blanket the walls of Galveston Historical Foundation’s 1861 Custom House as part of the Mainland Morning Quilt Guild’s Annual Show. This year, 49 quilts are on display – all painstakingly stitched together by the 70 or so members of the guild. Images range from bluebonnets and cactus scenes to ocean views, farm houses and renditions of abstract art. The Annual Show is open to the public weekdays and runs through July 6, 2012.

Here are pictures and details about the hundreds of quilts that were auctioned off at the 2012 Kansas MCC Mennonite Relief Sale on April 14, 2012. The prices range from $50 to $8,100. There were some beautiful quilts sold. This quilt below is called "Queen Ann Star", is 82" x 100" and took four people FOUR YEARS to hand quilt! It sold for $8,100!

Sew Biz of Radford is sponsoring a Quilt Challenge at the 2012 New River Valley Fair on July 23-28. The 2012 theme, “See What the Buzz is About,” features the Fair Bee. The challenge fabric is available at Sew Biz, 92 & 94 Harvey St., Radford, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An entry form must be completed and entry fee must be paid when you pick up the fabric. At least 50 percent of the fabric must be used in the quilt. The fabric provided is unwashed. We suggest you shrink by immersing in water, machine dry and press.
